Well, I have to say I’m really confused.
Only a few days ago I posted about Bit Rot being the scourge of the free world, and now it rears its ugly head once more.
Evidence on the left.
I would pay good money to work out what is causing this?
This is just a crop from a picture taken in The Lakes some time ago – the damage, thankfully, appears to have only affected this image, but as is so often the case I find, Bit Rot is entirely random.
This time a DNG file, next a JPEG, then a NEF…
What to do?
Well, thankfully, my backup comes to the rescue again and I recover a clean image – as I have many copies of the same picture.
I have tried: mains power filtering / replacing hard disks / rebuilding workstation software / virus & malware scanning / hardware cooling / RAID solutions / changing driver software….I could go on.
Then every now and again, Bit Rot!
So, what can I do to stop this happening?
Your answers on a postcard please….
