{"id":809,"date":"2013-08-04T14:16:15","date_gmt":"2013-08-04T14:16:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/uktech-one.co.uk\/blog\/?p=809"},"modified":"2013-08-04T17:37:06","modified_gmt":"2013-08-04T17:37:06","slug":"does-the-nsa-own-gchq","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.uktech.co.uk\/blog\/2013\/08\/does-the-nsa-own-gchq\/","title":{"rendered":"Does the NSA own GCHQ?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ok, so a bit of hyperbole in the title to get you going&#8230;but the US government appears to be handing over <a href=\"http:\/\/www.v3.co.uk\/v3-uk\/news\/2286600\/prism-gchq-receives-gbp100m-from-nsa-and-told-to-pull-its-weight\" target=\"_blank\">huge<\/a>\u00a0sums of money to GCHQ &#8211; you have to ask, what are they\u00a0getting in return?<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>If it was me, I&#8217;d want the keys to the safe!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>So what is it, exactly, that we give to the USA in return&#8230;after reading many articles, it seems the answer has eluded and evaded close scrutiny.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Anyone can guess, but I&#8217;m betting GCHQ didn&#8217;t get \u00a3100m for new desks and an increase in their paperclip allowance.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>At a time when <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2013\/aug\/02\/edward-snowden-asylum-russia-reaction\" target=\"_blank\">Edward Snowden<\/a> has alleged major infringements to civil liberty, by the NSA and <em><strong>just<\/strong> <\/em>survived almost certain life imprisonment, I&#8217;m guessing that we just sold our security rights to the NSA?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ok, so a bit of hyperbole in the title to get you going&#8230;but the US government appears to be handing over huge\u00a0sums of money to GCHQ &#8211; you have to ask, what are they\u00a0getting in return?
