{"id":485,"date":"2011-06-04T15:36:03","date_gmt":"2011-06-04T15:36:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/timbrison.wordpress.com\/?p=485"},"modified":"2014-06-04T16:02:55","modified_gmt":"2014-06-04T16:02:55","slug":"bit-rot-rides-again","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.uktech.co.uk\/blog\/2011\/06\/bit-rot-rides-again\/","title":{"rendered":"Bit Rot Rides Again!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/uktech.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/corrupt-jpeg1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"pic alignleft wp-image-466 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.uktech.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/corrupt-jpeg1.jpg\" alt=\"corrupt jpeg\" width=\"267\" height=\"179\" \/><\/a>Well, I have to say I&#8217;m really confused.<\/p>\n<p>Only a few days ago I posted about Bit Rot being the scourge of the free world, and now it rears its ugly head once more.<\/p>\n<p>Evidence on the left.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I would pay good money to work out what is causing this?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><!--more-->This is just a crop from a picture taken in The Lakes some time ago &#8211; the damage, thankfully, appears to have only affected this image, but as is so often the case I find, Bit Rot is entirely random.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>This time a DNG file, next a JPEG, then a NEF&#8230;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>What to do?<\/p>\n<p>Well, thankfully, my backup comes to the rescue again and I recover a clean image &#8211; as I have many copies of the same picture.<\/p>\n<p>I have tried: mains power filtering \/ replacing hard disks \/ rebuilding workstation software \/ virus &amp; malware scanning \/ hardware cooling \/ RAID solutions \/ changing driver software&#8230;.I could go on.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Then every now and again, Bit Rot!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/uktech.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/screenshot-364.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-500 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/uktech.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/screenshot-364-300x205.jpg\" alt=\"screenshot.364\" width=\"300\" height=\"205\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.uktech.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/screenshot-364-300x205.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.uktech.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/screenshot-364.jpg 420w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>So, what can I do to stop this happening?<\/p>\n<p>Your answers on a postcard please&#8230;.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Well, I have to say I&#8217;m really confused.
