So far the news isn&#8217;t all good &#8211; and I have my ISP to thank for this dire state of affairs.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The plot: I would love to share a desktop (basically some online storage space), between various locations I may visit &#8211; via the internet.<\/p>\n<p>The products: well, we aren&#8217;t short of solutions &#8211; Dropbox, Live Mesh, Ghost Cloud Computing, Mozy, iDrive etc &#8211; there are tons of providers.<\/p>\n<p>The issue: I have DSL at most sites I visit &#8211; which while offering great download speeds is dire at upload<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h2>I&#8217;m lucky to get 10 kB\/s upload speed&#8230;<\/h2>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>So, online desktop or backup services are very slow to actually get anything uploaded to them &#8211; come on ISPs, get your act together and offer SDSL at rates everyone can afford.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This last month I have been testing various online services &#8211; for home\/work use.
